Ryan Buckland
Principal
Ryan is a Principal in ACIL Allen’s Perth office, with expertise in economic and financial analysis, formation of public policy and business/investment strategy, and the communication of complex ideas.
About Ryan
Ryan is a highly skilled economist and consultant with extensive experience advising clients on complex challenges across diverse sectors. His expertise is grounded in economics, strategy, and commercial acumen, which he applies to deliver practical insights and innovative solutions.
Ryan's areas of speciality are in infrastructure, new energy and decarbonisation, as well as mining, energy, and heavy industries. His approach combines analytical thinking, stakeholder engagement, and tailored financial modelling to inform decision-making and strategic outcomes.
Key Achievements and Recent Projects:
- Delivered a landmark study for the Western Australian Government on green steel and green iron-making opportunities in Western Australia.
- Led the comprehensive WA Gas and Downstream Opportunities Study, including the most in-depth independent assessment of WA's domestic gas reservation policy.
- Directed economic and commercial analysis for investment in new State-owned port infrastructure in WA's Pilbara region.
- Advised the Northern Territory Government on reform options for its mineral royalty regime.
- Provided support for the WA Government on the provision infrastructure subsidies for a significant private sector project.
- Developed an economic, financial, and asset management framework for WA’s regional airports sector.
Ryan also regularly consults with private sector clients on major project proposals, providing strategic advice and robust economic assessments.
Before joining ACIL Allen, Ryan held senior roles at Deloitte Access Economics as a Senior Economist and Client Manager and at the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of WA as a Principal Economist.
Outside of ACIL Allen, Ryan is a passionate sports journalist, contributing a column to The West Australian newspaper and co-authoring a book on Australian Rules football statistics.
Ryan holds a Bachelor of Commerce with Honours in Economics from Curtin University and is a graduate of the Committee for Economic Development in Australia’s (CEDA) Copeland Leadership Program.
