Ryan Buckland
Principal
Ryan is a Principal in ACIL Allen’s Perth office, with expertise in economic and financial analysis, formation of public policy and business/investment strategy, and the communication of complex ideas.
About Ryan
Ryan is an economist by training and management consultant by practice, advising clients on complex matters across sectors. Much of Ryan’s recent work has centred on infrastructure, new energy and decarbonisation, and mining, energy and heavy industries.
Ryan’s strengths lie in his ability to generate practical insights through application of economics, strategy and commercial acumen. Ryan informs client work with analytical thinking, stakeholder engagement and management skills, and development and interpretation of tailored financial models and market analysis.
His recent engagements include:
- delivering a landmark Western Australian Government study into green steel and green iron making opportunities for Western Australia
- leading the development of the WA Gas and Downstream Opportunities Study, which includes the most comprehensive independent assessment of Western Australia’s domestic gas reservation policy undertaken
- leading a program of economic and commercial analysis and assessment for investment in new State-owned ports infrastructure in the Pilbara region of Western Australia
- advising the Northern Territory Government on reform options for its mineral royalty regime
- advising the Western Australian Government on the provision of infrastructure subsidies for a major private sector project
- leading the development of an economic, financial and asset management framework for the Western Australian Government’s management of the regional airports sector
Ryan also regularly advises private sector clients on major project proposals.
Prior to joining ACIL Allen, Ryan was a Senior Economist and Client Manager at Deloitte Access Economics, and a Principal Economist at the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Western Australia. Outside of work Ryan is a sports journalist having contributed to a book on Australian Rules football statistics, and contributing a column to The West Australian newspaper.
Ryan holds a Bachelor of Commerce with honours in Economics from Curtin University, and is a graduate of the Committee for Economic Development in Australia (CEDA)’s Copeland Leadership Program.
