National Mental Health Workforce Strategy 2022 - 2032

Client: Department of Health and Aged Care

01/01/2022

In December 2018, the Australian Government committed to developing a new National Mental Health Workforce Strategy to attract, train and retain the workforce needed to meet the rising demands of the mental health system in Australia.

The development of the Strategy was informed by the independent National Mental Health Workforce Strategy Taskforce, with representatives from the mental health workforce and consumers and carers.

ACIL Allen was engaged to support the Taskforce in guiding the Strategy. The Taskforce considered the quality, supply, distribution, and structure of Australia’s mental health workforce. It also identified practical actions that could be implemented by Australian governments to grow and strengthen the workforce.

The development of the Strategy included evidence from a range of sources including published literature, workforce data analysis, and government reports and inquiries, dedicated working groups focused on priority areas, roundtables with consumers, carers, and state and territory governments, and a public consultation process.

For further information the completed National Mental Health Workforce Strategy is available via the Australian Government Department of Health site.
